This week we will start a new series - Jill Bakes The Alphabet. Each week we will feature a new recipe starting with a particular letter!
I will kick off this new series with one of my all-time favourite recipes, apple crumble but with a caramel twist!
'A’ Apple Caramel Crumble.

INGREDIENTS…
Serves 6-8
1 large cooking apple, peeled and chopped in small 1-2cm chunks
6 eating apples, peeled and chopped in small 1-2cm chunks 70g caster sugar
2 tbsp cold water
1/2 tsp cinnamon
6 tbsp Carnations Caramel plus extra for serving (the drizzle sauce version is easier but the tin is fine too)
Ice cream or custard, to serve
For the crumble topping:
200g plain flour
150g butter, straight out of the fridge
80g rolled oats
100g Demerara sugar
75g caster sugar
Sprinkle cold water
INSTRUCTIONS…
1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees fan.
2. Prepare the apples and place into a shallow ovenproof pie or casserole dish. Sprinkle over the sugar, cinnamon and water and mix.
3. Dollop or drizzle in the caramel. Set aside.
4. In a large bowl, rub the flour and butter together with your hands (it's better if your hands are cold), until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
5. Stir in the oats and the sugar and combine.
I like to add a few sprinkles of cold water and rub through to create a slightly stickier mixture. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apple. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until golden.
6. Drizzle over some extra caramel and serve with custard and/or ice cream and enjoy!
