Harryville Primary staff raise over £2,500 so far ahead of NI Hospice Dragon Boat challenge
Team Harryville Primary School ahead of their Dragon Boat Race challenge this weekend.
Staff from Harryville Primary School in Ballymena have raised more than £2,500 so far for Northern Ireland Hospice — with donations still coming in ahead of their Dragon Boat challenge on the River Lagan this weekend.
The school team will take to the water in Belfast on Saturday, September 19, as part of the charity’s Dragon Boat Race, joining teams from businesses, clubs and organisations for a colourful day of competition and fundraising.
For Harryville Primary, however, the challenge has a particularly personal meaning, with Northern Ireland Hospice having supported families within the school community.
Cause close to school community
Speaking on behalf of the staff team, Jessica McNeill said:
“We are very proud of a group of our staff who are taking part in the Dragon Boat Race this Saturday to raise funds for Northern Ireland Hospice.
“Northern Ireland Hospice is a very special charity that has supported many families within our school community, making this a cause that is particularly close to our hearts.
“We would be very grateful for any donations to help our staff team reach their fundraising target. We are also holding a Coffee Morning in school on Friday 18th September, with all money raised going towards our fundraiser.
“Let’s get behind our Harryville team and help raise as much as we can for this wonderful cause!
“Every donation, big or small, will make a difference.”
More than £2,500 raised so far
The Harryville team has already raised more than £2,500, with supporters still able to contribute to its Northern Ireland Hospice fundraiser through its JustGiving page.

The wider Dragon Boat event takes place on the River Lagan across Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September, bringing teams together to race while raising vital funds for the Hospice.
Supporting Northern Ireland Hospice
Northern Ireland Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to infants, children and adults with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, as well as their families.
Harryville Primary has thanked everyone who has supported its fundraising so far, with Saturday’s race giving staff the chance to turn that backing into one final push on the water for a charity that has made a difference to families close to the school.
