Glenann Primary School honoured as ‘Best Small School’ in Co Antrim by Families First NI Awards

Pupils and staff from Glenann Primary School have been formally recognised by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, following the school’s recent success at the Families First NI Awards 2025.
At a celebratory reception held in Sheskburn House, the school community was welcomed by Councillor Oliver McMullan, who paid tribute to Glenann’s outstanding achievement in being named ‘Best Small School’ in County Antrim.
The accolade was awarded during a prestigious gala event at Titanic Belfast on 7th June, where Glenann Primary was praised for its close-knit ethos, dedicated staff, and warm, welcoming environment.

The nomination was submitted by parents, reflecting strong community support.
Councillor McMullan, who is a former pupil of the Cushendall school, said:
“I was delighted to meet the children and chat to them about their school and why they love it so much.
“They talked about the subjects they enjoy and the fun extra-curricular activities they are involved in. It’s clear the school makes a real difference to the pupils’ lives every day.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the outstanding staff, wonderful pupils and hugely supportive families.”

Headteacher Padraig Shivers also expressed his pride in the award and appreciation for the support received from both families and civic leaders.
“I would like to thank the Mayor for inviting our school to Sheskburn House and for recognising our outstanding achievement in the Families First NI Awards.
“I would also like to thank the parents who nominated us for the award and to the children, staff and entire school community who really make Glenann a special place to be each and every day.”
Glenann Primary School continues to be celebrated as a model of community-centred education in the Glens of Antrim, where its emphasis on inclusivity, learning, and pupil wellbeing has resonated widely across the region.
