A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland as Storm Claudia is set to bring persistent heavy rain and possible flooding from Friday evening into Saturday afternoon.

The Met Office warning, in place between 00:00 and 12:00 (UTC) on Saturday 15 November 2025, affects County Down and County Armagh, where forecasters expect some of the most severe impacts.

Storm Claudia, previously named by the Spanish Meteorological Service, will push bands of rain northwards through Friday evening and overnight, before conditions gradually ease later on Saturday morning. The system will also be accompanied by strong easterly winds.

According to forecasters, “Storm Claudia will bring persistent rain from Friday evening into early Saturday and may lead to some flooding and disruption, impacting County Down and County Armagh.”

Rainfall totals are expected to reach 10–20 mm quite widely, with the potential for over 40 mm across the Mourne Mountains, the Met Office said. Combined with saturated ground following recent prolonged wet weather, the conditions are “likely to lead to some surface water and river flooding impacts.”

Motorists are being advised to take extra care when travelling, with potential hazards including spray, difficult driving conditions and localised flooding on roads.
