The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland, warning that strong winds and heavy rain could bring disruption on Thursday afternoon and evening.

The warning is in effect from 1pm until 11pm on Thursday, 30 October 2025, covering all parts of Northern Ireland.

According to the Met Office, “A period of strong winds, accompanied by some heavy rain, could bring some disruption on Thursday afternoon and evening.”

Forecasters say south to southeasterly winds will strengthen through Thursday, with gusts of 40–50 mph expected across most areas, and 60–70 mph possible in more exposed coastal and upland regions, particularly around the Mournes and north coast.

The weather warning adds that outbreaks of rain are likely to move across the country during the same period.

“A short period of heavy rain accompanied by strong, gusty winds will be possible in places,” the Met Office said.

Potential Impacts

The Met Office has warned that the strong winds could lead to:

  • Difficult driving conditions, particularly for high-sided vehicles

  • Possible travel disruption and delays to public transport

  • Short-term power interruptions in some areas

  • Large waves and hazardous coastal conditions

Motorists and the public are being advised to take extra care, especially during the evening commute and in coastal or exposed areas.
