Plans have been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council that would see McLaughlin's Corner, a former bar and restaurant in Rasharkin, transformed into a used car showroom and car sales office.
As a popular food, drink and entertainment venue, McLaughlins Corner was at the heart of the local rural community for many years with many travelling from near and far for its hearty portions and traditional cooking styles. It is understood the hostelry has existed at the location since the 1890's.
Proposed building elevations and floor plan
The application for change of use for the premises at 60 Bann Road has been submitted by Gerard McPeake Architectural on behalf of Mr James Laverty (UCAR used car company) based in Garvagh.
The planning proposal would see most the inner walls removed to create large open space for the car showroom, while a wall and windows would also be removed to create a garage door opening, providing vehicular access from rear of the building.
Proposed construction of car cleaning garage
The plans also include the construction of a portal frame 'cleaning garage' at the back of the current building.
There will be 37 car parking spaces for staff and customers.
