Mr William (Billy) Smyth
Warm tributes have been paid following the passing of Mr William (Billy) Smyth, a beloved former teacher at Dunclug College in Ballymena, who died peacefully on Friday 18 July 2025.
Mr Smyth, who taught in the Technology Department at Dunclug College until his retirement, is remembered fondly by generations of pupils and colleagues alike.
In a heartfelt statement, Dunclug College said:
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of former member of teaching staff, Mr Billy Smyth, who taught in the Technology Department in Dunclug College until his retirement.
“Mr Smyth is fondly remembered by present and past colleagues and pupils. We extend our sympathies and condolences to his family and the entire family circle.”
Mr Smyth passed away at the Macmillan Unit in Antrim Area Hospital. He was the late husband of Yvonne and a devoted father to Gail and Neil, father-in-law to Fraser and Zoe, and a proud grandfather to Bethan, Caitlin, Isla, and Jack. He was also a cherished brother to Daphne, Sandra, and Roy.
Funeral arrangements, published by J. Stevenson & Son Funeral Directors, confirm that a Service of Thanksgiving for Mr Smyth’s life will take place at Buckna Presbyterian Church (New Building) on Wednesday 23 July at 1pm, followed by interment in Buckna New Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Mr Smyth’s home at 8 Achacully Road, Broughshane, on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
The family have requested family flowers only. Donations, if desired, can be made in Mr Smyth’s memory to Macmillan Cancer Support, care of James Stevenson & Son, 15 Main Street, Broughshane, BT42 4JW.
Mr Smyth will be “lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family and the entire family circle.”
