Seven-year-old boy critically injured after collision with car in Coleraine

A seven-year-old boy remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition following a serious road traffic collision in Coleraine on Sunday evening.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage as they investigate the collision, which involved the young boy while he was riding his bicycle and a black Volkswagen Scirocco.

Collision on Warnocks Lane

The incident happened in the Warnocks Lane area at around 6.40pm on Sunday, 13 September.

Inspector Roxborough said:

“We received a report at approximately 6.40pm on Sunday, 13th September that a collision had occurred between a young boy, who had been riding his bicycle, and a black Volkswagon Sirocco in the Warnocks Lane area.

“Officers attended the scene alongside our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service where medical treatment was provided to the seven-year-old.

“He was transported on to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition at this time.”

Warnocks Lane was closed in both directions for a period following the collision but has since fully reopened.

Police appeal for footage

Police enquiries are continuing today, Monday, as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Inspector Roxborough added:

“Our enquiries are ongoing today to determine what happened.

“We would ask anyone who was travelling in the area to review dash-cam or other footage they may have captured of the collision and call us on 101 with any information. The reference number is 1271 13/09/26.”
