Festive cheer was delivered in style at Ballycastle Integrated Primary School after its Primary One class was named the winner of the Fibrus ‘Christmas Classroom’ competition.

Local Full Fibre broadband provider Fibrus surprised pupils when Papa Elf and the Fibrus Tinsel Team arrived at their classroom bearing a sack filled with presents for every child.

Papa Elf, a familiar festive figure who has brought Christmas cheer to some of Northern Ireland’s best-known seasonal events for more than 20 years, appeared in traditional costume alongside the Tinsel Team, dressed as Santa’s classic elves.

Adding to the excitement, pupils also enjoyed a special video call from Santa Claus himself. During the call, Santa congratulated the children for their good behaviour and for going above and beyond for one another throughout the year, delivering a heartfelt festive message that celebrated their kindness and teamwork.

Mrs McCloskey’s Primary One class has spent the school term focusing on kindness, respect and generosity, particularly towards those less fortunate. As part of their learning, the class created their own Christmas show, reinforcing the message that the true meaning of Christmas lies in sharing, caring and working together to make others happy.

The four- and five-year-olds will continue spreading festive cheer beyond the classroom this Christmas by visiting a local nursing home in Ballycastle, where they will sing carols for residents.

Fibrus said the initiative reflects its commitment to meaningful connections, particularly in rural communities. Through its ongoing Full Fibre broadband rollout across rural and regional Northern Ireland, the company continues to play a role in keeping families and communities connected during the festive season and beyond.

Dominic Kearns, CEO of Fibrus, said:

“We are thrilled to bring this magical experience to Ballycastle Integrated Primary School. The dedication and spirit shown by these children and their teacher is inspiring.

“At Fibrus, community is at the heart of everything we do, and this initiative is about giving back and creating moments that matter. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces reminds us why these connections are so important.”

Mrs Donna McCloskey, Primary One teacher at Ballycastle Integrated Primary School, said:

“Our class has worked so hard since September, and this visit was truly magical. The children joined our school this year from not only different pre-school settings, but also from different countries. They have come together to form one happy and caring group, and we are so proud at how they have adapted to school life, which is such a big step for them all.

“This surprise from Fibrus and Santa is a wonderful reward for their efforts and something they will never forget. Thank you so much to Fibrus, who have made Christmas dreams come true.”
