The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is continuing to urge caution as recovery efforts from Storm Amy intensify across the region.

Clean-up operations are under way this morning with multiple agencies working to restore essential services, including power, water, and transport networks.

However, officials have warned that the risk of disruption remains, as yellow weather warnings are still in force.

A yellow warning for strong winds remains in place across all of Northern Ireland until 23:59 on Saturday 4th October, while a yellow warning for rain is in effect until 12:00 the same day.

A PSNI spokesperson said:

“We are particularly urging road users to exercise extra care and attention when driving. Surface water, flooding, fallen debris or temporary restrictions are all a strong possibility. Some roads are currently closed due to fallen trees or flooding.

“Everyone should still avoid unnecessary travel but if you must travel take extra care and please reduce your speed.”

Ongoing risks and safety warnings

The warnings may slow restoration efforts for power and transport services, with officials highlighting the risk of further disruption.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) Networks has again advised members of the public to stay away from damaged or fallen electricity lines and equipment.

“NIE Networks has again urged the public to stay well clear of any power lines or damaged electricity equipment they may come across. This should be reported immediately,” the PSNI reminded.

Where to find updates

  • Weather updates: Met Office

  • Traffic updates: TrafficWatch NI

  • Flooding incidents: Report via the Flooding Incident Line on 0300 2000 100

  • Electricity issues: Report to NIE Networks immediately on 03457 643 643

The PSNI stressed that the Flooding Incident Line is not for emergencies. “If you’re in danger, contact the emergency services by telephoning 999,” the spokesperson added.

Agencies working together

With fallen trees, surface water, and debris still affecting parts of the road network, emergency and council teams are coordinating efforts to restore access and repair damage. The public is being urged to remain patient as recovery work continues.
