Launching the event is Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, with representatives from the world-famous Irish Guards.
Mid & East Antrim is set to host a spectacular display of military pageantry as the world-famous Irish Guards mark their 125th anniversary with a public parade and musical performance on Thursday 4 September 2025.
From 4pm to 5pm, the Irish Guards will march from Carrickfergus Town Hall to Castle Car Park, culminating in a dazzling performance against the iconic backdrop of Carrickfergus Castle.
Known as one of the most distinguished regiments in the British Army, the Irish Guards are recognised for their ceremonial duties in London, operational service around the world, and their distinctive St Patrick’s Blue plume.
A historic milestone for Carrickfergus
Welcoming the regiment to Mid and East Antrim, Mayor Councillor Jackson Minford said:
“I am delighted to welcome the Irish Guards to Carrickfergus for this milestone anniversary. Their visit is not just a celebration of 125 years of distinguished service but it’s a chance for our community to share in a moment of history.
“I know people of all ages will be inspired by the pride, tradition and skill on display. I hope everyone will join us in giving them the warmest of Mid and East Antrim welcomes.”
Formed by order of Queen Victoria in 1900, the Irish Guards have served with distinction in conflicts including both World Wars, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Affectionately known as “the Micks”, they are part of the Household Division, regularly appearing at Royal and State occasions such as the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and the King’s Birthday Parade.
Tradition, pride and spectacle

Launching the event is Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, with representatives from the world-famous Irish Guards.
The 125th anniversary celebrations will feature the Irish Guards Regimental Band and Pipe Band, the Regimental Colour Party, a full Ceremonial Guard of Honour, and the much-loved Irish Guards’ Wolfhound Mascot, Seamus, leading the parade.
Major Stephen McMichael, Irish Guards 125 Project Officer, said:
“Marking our 125th anniversary here in Carrickfergus is truly special. This historic town, with its stunning castle and centuries-long military connections, offers the perfect backdrop to share our story with the people of Northern Ireland.
“We look forward to marching alongside the support of the local community and expressing our heartfelt thanks for the friendship and encouragement shown to the Irish Guards through the years.”
The free event promises a world-class display of music and military drill, bringing together both residents and visitors. While admission is free, donations are encouraged in support of the Irish Guards Charity (Registered Charity No. 1194198), which provides vital support for serving soldiers, veterans, and their families.
