Police in Ballymena have seized a quantity of suspected Class A and Class B drugs along with a large amount of cash following a proactive search operation in the town.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drugs-related offences and remains in police custody.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Local Policing Team on Saturday, 30 May, as part of ongoing efforts to target the supply and distribution of illegal drugs in the Ballymena area.

The suspected drugs and cash have now been taken away for forensic examination.

Police say drugs removed from streets

Inspector Roxborough said the seizure was part of continued policing activity aimed at protecting local communities from the harm caused by illegal drugs.

He said:

“Officers conducted a proactive search of a property in the Ballymena area on Saturday 30th May. As a result, a quantity of drugs and cash were seized and taken away for further forensic examinations.”

The inspector added that the arrest and seizure represented a significant intervention by officers tackling organised criminal activity linked to drug misuse.

“Our officers will continue to protect communities from the harm of illegal drugs. As a result of this excellent police work, a large quantity of suspected dangerous controlled drugs are now safely off our streets,” he said.

Appeal for information from the public

Police have also issued a direct appeal to the public for information relating to the supply, possession or misuse of illegal drugs in local communities.

Inspector Roxborough said:

“Drugs have no place in our community and I am making a direct appeal to anyone with information about the illicit supply, possession or misuse of drugs to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/”

Members of the public can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/

The latest seizure comes amid continued policing operations across Northern Ireland targeting the illegal drugs trade and associated criminality, with officers warning that controlled drugs continue to cause serious harm to individuals, families and wider communities.
