Police have arrested a man following a reported hit-and-run collision in Coleraine on Sunday, 16 November, which left a motorcyclist injured.

Officers said the incident occurred in the Willowfield Park area, where a man in his 50s, who had been riding a motorcycle, was struck by a grey Audi car.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries to his leg and arm.

A woman at the scene attempted to intervene when the collision happened, signalling for the driver to stop and placing her hands on the bonnet. She was “clipped” on the leg by the vehicle, though no serious injury was caused.

Police said the driver failed to remain at the scene, but a car matching the description was located shortly afterwards. A man in his 20s was arrested and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives are also examining a possible link between the collision and an earlier verbal altercation in the Atlantic Road area of Coleraine, near Burn Road.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the PSNI is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was travelling in the Atlantic Road area between 4.15am and 4.30pm, to come forward. Officers are particularly keen to review any relevant dash-cam footage.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1011 16/11/25. Reports can also be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form via the PSNI website.
