Families shopping at M&S could see noticeable savings on everything from salmon and mince to eggs, ketchup and freezer staples after the retailer announced a major £30 million investment in lowering food prices across more than 65 everyday products.

The move marks one of the retailer’s biggest pushes yet to compete more aggressively for regular weekly food shops, with M&S insisting customers will still get the same quality ingredients and sourcing standards rather than a stripped-back “budget” range.

Among the headline reductions are cuts to the price of fresh salmon fillets — described by M&S as the UK’s favourite fish — alongside reductions on British beef mince, tortilla wraps, onions, French fries and a wide range of household staples.

The retailer says the changes are aimed squarely at helping more families “eat well for less” as household budgets remain under pressure across the UK.

Salmon prices cut across entire fresh range

One of the most significant changes announced by M&S is a reduction in the price of every one of its fresh salmon fillets.

The company cited consumer research suggesting 68% of families would eat or cook with salmon more often if it was more affordable, while one in five families struggle to get enough Omega 3 in their diet.

M&S says its exclusive Caledonian Gold salmon is the only salmon sold by a national retailer that provides a full weekly requirement of Omega 3 in a single serving.

Key reductions include:

• 2 Caledonian Gold™ Salmon Fillets, 240g — reduced from £5.50 to £4.95

• 4 Caledonian Gold™ Salmon Fillets, 460g — reduced from £10.75 to £9.50

• Single Caledonian Gold™ Salmon Fillet, 120g — now £2.75

The retailer said the lower prices bring its salmon products into line with wider market pricing while maintaining M&S sourcing and quality standards.

Everyday essentials included in price drop

The reductions stretch far beyond fish products, with M&S lowering prices on a wide range of family shopping essentials across fresh, frozen and cupboard foods.

Products receiving lower pricing include:

• British Lean Beef Mince 12% — £4.50

• Free Range Mixed Size Eggs 6 Pack — £1.30

• Tomato Ketchup — 95p

• Frozen French Fries 1kg — £1.70

• 8 Tortilla Wraps — £1.45

• Brown Onions — £1.30

• Crinkle Cut Chips — £2.00

• Garlic Baguette — £1.00

• Pure Honey — from £1.40

A large number of additional products across dairy, salad items, sauces, frozen foods and household essentials have also been included in the reductions.

M&S said the lower pricing forms part of its “Remarksable Value”, “Dropped & Locked” and “Bigger Pack, Better Value” ranges.

The retailer claims the ranges are designed differently from traditional supermarket “entry tier” value products, arguing customers are still receiving the same M&S quality rather than cheaper reformulated alternatives.

Retail giant targets family shoppers

The announcement highlights M&S Food’s continued effort to attract more families into doing larger regular shops with the retailer rather than using it primarily for occasional treats or premium purchases.

According to company figures, M&S Food added more than 369,000 family shoppers during the 2025/26 financial year.

The retailer also said perceptions of value among family shoppers have improved significantly over the past two years.

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said the business was continuing to invest heavily in pricing as it expands.

He said:

“As we double the size of our Food business, we are continuing to invest in quality and price to bring the best food to our customers.

“These price reductions across key family favourites like salmon, eggs and veg are all part of our commitment to help our customers to eat great tasting food every day, without compromise.

“This is another step on our transformation journey as we reinvest for growth.”

Pressure remains on household food budgets

The announcement comes as supermarkets across the UK continue battling intensely over value messaging amid ongoing pressure on household finances and grocery spending.

For many shoppers locally, where rising food costs have remained a major concern over the past two years, price reductions on staple products could influence where families choose to do their weekly shop.

M&S has confirmed more products are expected to be added to its value-focused ranges over the summer months as it continues expanding the programme.
