The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, has hosted a special reception to honour local talent Lydia Todd, who recently claimed three major Drum Major titles on the international stage.

The 14-year-old Dalriada School pupil secured the 2025 Scottish, European and World Junior Drum Major Championships at the prestigious Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) events earlier this year.

Lydia, who began her journey as a Drum Major in 2016, has already built an impressive record of success in competitive pipe band circles. Her dedication, discipline, and musical leadership have earned her a reputation as one of Northern Ireland’s most promising young performers.

As a proud member of McNeillstown Pipe Band in Portglenone, Lydia’s responsibilities extend beyond performance. Her role as Drum Major combines leadership, musical, and conducting skills—from commanding the band during performances to leading rehearsals and mentoring other members.

Mayor McMullan praised Lydia’s remarkable accomplishments, saying:

“I was delighted to welcome Lydia and her family to Cloonavin to offer my congratulations on her recent success in the Junior Drum Major World Championships.

“To win one title is a remarkable achievement, but to win three major titles in one year is outstanding. Lydia has shown a real talent and passion for leadership, and she is a fantastic role model for young people in our area.”

Lydia’s success highlights the strength of Northern Ireland’s musical tradition and the dedication of its young performers who continue to excel at the highest level of competition.
