Five newly trained volunteer Walk Leaders in Cushendall

Five newly trained volunteer Walk Leaders are set to help more people in Cushendall enjoy free weekly community walks aimed at improving health, wellbeing and social connection.

The volunteers, all members of the Cushendall Development Group, recently completed Walk Leader training and will now support the local Walking for All group, which meets every Tuesday at 1pm.

The initiative is designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get outdoors, enjoy gentle exercise and meet others in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Helping people get active

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Walking for All Officer, Colleen Martin, welcomed the new volunteers and said their involvement would help strengthen the programme in the village.

The weekly walks are free to attend and are open to everyone, regardless of fitness level, making them an accessible way for local people to become more active while enjoying the outdoors.

Part of a wider programme

Walking for All groups operate across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, with every walk led by trained volunteers who help create a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

The programme is delivered by Outscape and supported through PEACEPLUS, a funding programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

How to get involved

Anyone interested in joining the Cushendall walking group, finding another Walking for All group or exploring how to start a new group in their own community can email colleen.martin@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk or visit www.walkingforall.com for more information.

The addition of five new Walk Leaders means the Cushendall group is well placed to continue welcoming new participants and encouraging more people to enjoy the physical and social benefits of regular community walks.
