Danske Bank has announced a major investment in Ballymoney with plans to relocate its branch to a modern new site on High Street.
The move, just a few doors from its current premises, will see the bank transfer to 12 High Street, with the fit-out expected to be completed by November. The existing branch at 6 High Street will remain open until the relocation is finalised.
Branch Manager Elizabeth Graham said customers can look forward to a fresh, modern experience with extended services.
“My team and I are looking forward to welcoming customers to our new branch later this year. Customers will still see the same friendly faces they know, and the branch will have a welcoming and modern feel.
“Having listened to customer feedback, I’m delighted to share that the branch will be open over lunchtime once we move, and there will be an additional exterior cash machine which will have auto deposit functionality.
“We’ll share more details closer to the move but in the meantime, we’re very much still here for customers in our usual location.”
Aisling Press, Managing Director of Personal Banking at Danske Bank, described the move as part of the bank’s long-term strategy to balance digital and in-person banking.
“This investment reflects our continued commitment to our customers and community in Ballymoney, delivering a fresh branch experience, enhanced services and improved facilities for our colleagues and customers.
“Although we’re sad to leave our current building with its rich history, this move is about meeting both our current and future needs. While many customers now prefer online banking, branches remain an important part of how we serve our customers. It’s about ensuring customers receive the best possible service however they choose to do their banking.”
The announcement has been welcomed locally. Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive of Retail NI, praised the decision, saying:
“Like much of the retail landscape, banking has changed, with many consumers and businesses preferring the convenience of digital banking. However, it is also clear that many of our members and their customers still value having the option of local branch banking. We very much welcome Danske Bank’s ongoing commitment to Ballymoney.”
North Antrim MLA Jon Burrows (UUP) also hailed the investment as a “major vote of confidence” in the town.
“This is a very positive announcement and a major vote of confidence in Ballymoney. In an era where many financial institutions are retreating from our high streets, Danske Bank is choosing to reinvest and modernise its services right here. This ensures that local customers, both personal and business, will continue to have vital access to in-person banking services for the long term.
“The enhanced services, including remaining open over lunchtime and the installation of a new exterior cash machine with auto-deposit, are a direct and welcome response to customer needs. This modern new branch will provide an excellent facility for both staff and customers, strengthening our town centre.”
The MLA added his thanks to Danske Bank for its continued presence in Ballymoney, and to Elizabeth Graham and her team for their “dedicated service”.
Danske Bank confirmed that the current building will be advertised for sale, while the new Ballymoney branch will open in November 2025. The bank also announced that its Coleraine and Lisburn branches will be relocated in early 2026.
