£627,000 Grove Road resurfacing scheme to bring eight weeks of traffic disruption in Ballymena

Drivers in Ballymena are being warned to expect up to eight weeks of disruption as a £627,000 resurfacing scheme gets under way on Grove Road next month.

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has confirmed that resurfacing work on the C109 Grove Roadwill begin on Monday 10 August, with the project expected to continue until Wednesday 7 October, subject to weather conditions.

What road is affected?

The £627,000 investment will see 2.17 kilometres of Grove Road resurfaced between Ballyloughan Brow and the Cushendall Road Roundabout.

The scheme is intended to improve the condition of one of Ballymena’s key local routes, benefiting residents, commuters and businesses that use the road.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Ballymena area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.

“I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

Lane closures followed by daytime road closure

The project will be delivered in two phases.

A lane closure will operate from Monday 10 August until Friday 28 August.

This will be followed by a daytime road closure between 9.30am and 4.30pm from Monday 31 August until Wednesday 7 October.

During the closure period, traffic will be diverted via:

• A26 Ballymoney Road

• A42 Parkway

• A43 Cushendall Road

The diversion will operate in both directions.

Drivers advised to allow extra time

DfI said it has planned the work and traffic management arrangements to reduce disruption as much as possible and will seek to maintain local access where feasible.

However, motorists travelling through the area should expect delays, allow additional journey time and follow all temporary traffic restrictions while the works are in progress.

Subject to favourable weather, the resurfacing is expected to be substantially complete by Wednesday 7 October 2026, although the Department said it will keep the public informed if the schedule changes.
