North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan is urging people to learn CPR and potentially save a life.
Each year over 30,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK, with less than one in ten surviving - giving CPR and using a defibrillator can more than double someone’s chance of survival.
Speaking after he and party colleagues received CPR training from the British Heart Foundationg the Sinn Féin MLA said:
"There are around 1,000 people in North Antrim who have been diagnosed with heart failure by their GP's. We can all potentially help save a live with knowledge of CPR. This could be the life of a family member, friend or work colleague."
Mr McGuigan added:
"With the RevivR online it now only takes 15 minutes to learn CPR and this training is free and straightforward. It can be done with just a cushion and a smartphone.
"I would encourage people not to let February, which is heart month, pass without visiting the BHF website and taking this vital training."
Developed by the British Heart Foundation, RevivR is a free, interactive, online 15 minutes CPR training course that will allow anyone learn how to save a life and receive their very own CPR certificate.
