County Antrim athlete and long-time Springwell Running Club member Paul Quinn will take on the AJ Bell Great North Run on Sunday, 7 September 2025, to raise funds for Alzheimer’s UK.
Paul, who has over 12 years of long-distance running under his belt, is no stranger to high-profile events, having competed in major marathons across the UK and Ireland—including Manchester, Edinburgh, London, Dublin, and Derry.
Speaking about his motivation, Paul explained:
“Running has given me so much, and I’ve always believed in using it as a force for good. Alzheimer’s UK is doing vital work, and I want to support their efforts through this event.”
The AJ Bell Great North Run is considered the world’s largest half marathon, drawing around 60,000 participants each year. The celebrated 13.1-mile course runs from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields, featuring an electric race-day atmosphere, live music, and the iconic Tyne Bridge crossing.
Paul trains against a backdrop of some of Northern Ireland’s most scenic landscapes.

Based in Ballycastle—a picturesque seaside town on County Antrim’s north-eastern coast—he often runs along the world-famous Causeway Coastal Route. The town is widely known as the eastern gateway to natural wonders such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Glens of Antrim.
Quinn says the local scenery keeps him motivated:
“There’s nothing quite like heading out along the cliffs and coastal paths. The beauty of this area constantly reminds me why I love running.”
Following the Great North Run, Paul plans to continue his charity running efforts with several international marathons before the year is out, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to raising awareness and funds for causes close to his heart.
