Planning permission has been granted for a replacement main stand at Carrick Rangers Football Club, located at Taylor’s Avenue, Carrickfergus.
The proposal was approved at a recent meeting of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Planning Committee.
A planning officer informed the meeting that the application involves replacing the existing stand at the northern end of the pitch. He described the design as “typical of modern stadium design”.
The new stand will feature 846 seats, including designated areas for VIP guests, media, and disabled visitors. It will also include a bar/club room, kitchen, gym, physio room and toilets. The proposed structure will measure 96 metres in length and 9.5 metres in height.
Planning permission for a new clubhouse, changing rooms and multi-purpose rooms at the ground was previously approved in January 2024. A report presented to the committee also noted that permission has already been granted for new stands behind the goals at the eastern and western ends of the pitch.

The planning officer confirmed that no objections had been received from statutory consultees, including the Department for Infrastructure Roads, which raised no concerns about access, car parking, traffic flow, or road safety.
No objections were received from members of the public either. Access to the site will continue via the existing car park off Prince William Way.
The officer added that the proposal “represents an acceptable form of development for this location and will enhance facilities which exist at the ground and those which have already been granted approval”.
According to the committee report, the site currently comprises a main grass football pitch, with a main stand and terracing on the northern side.
There is also a covered terrace at the western end. The proposed development seeks to replace the existing grandstand and spectator terracing with a new covered seating stand.
Knockagh Alliance Councillor Aaron Skinner proposed accepting the officer’s recommendation. He said:
“It is great to see this project moving forward.”
The proposal was seconded by Bannside DUP Councillor Tyler Hoey and was approved unanimously.
