Local families and visitors are in for a treat this summer as Ballymena Town Centre gears up for a packed programme of free events across July and August.

With a vibrant mix of games, characters, entertainment and surprises, Wellington Court will be transformed into a colourful hub of activity, promising memorable days out for locals and visitors alike.

The initiative, supported by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, is designed to bring families together in the heart of the town with three unmissable event days lined up.

Chip It Like Rory

Friday 18 July | 11am–3pm

The summer fun tees off with Chip It Like Rory, a golf-themed day inspired by Rory McIlroy’s iconic appearance on the Kelly Show as a child.

Attendees can test their skills at GIANT and MINI Washing Machine Chipping Stations, enjoy face painting by Glitterbugs, and let little ones explore the Toddler Super Mini Golfers Zone.

There are prizes up for grabs, and organisers promise: “It’s a swinging good time for all ages – even if golf isn’t your thing!”

Summer Fun Fridays

Friday 25 July & Friday 1 August | 11am–2pm

Wellington Court will come alive over two Fridays filled with fun and laughter. Both days will include:

  • Creative face painting

  • Traditional games

  • Sweet treats

  • Live character appearances

On 25 July, children can “say hello to the one and only Minions”, while on 1 August, families will “meet the colourful crew from Inside Out”. According to organisers, “It’s the ultimate way to kick off your weekend – free, fabulous and full of fun.”

Carnival in the Court

Saturday 16 August | 11am–3pm

The summer programme ends with a spectacular Mini Carnival, transforming the town centre into a bustling fairground.

Families can look forward to:

  • Classic carnival games

  • Hilarious and friendly roaming characters

  • Balloon modelling and face painting

  • Sweet snacks and street-style entertainment

“This big day out is not to be missed,” say organisers, who have partnered with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to deliver the grand finale. “It’s bold, it’s bright, and it’s bursting with excitement!”

A Community Celebration in the Heart of Ballymena

All events take place at Wellington Court, a central and accessible location within Ballymena Town Centre. Families are encouraged to make a day of it, enjoying the shops, cafés and atmosphere while taking part in the activities.

With something for everyone – from toddlers to grandparents – this initiative invites the whole community to connect, celebrate and enjoy the summer together.
