Ballymena Honda and Feridax have reinforced the safety operation at this year’s Briggs Equipment North West 200 by supplying a fleet of high-performance motorcycles and protective equipment for the event’s travelling marshals ahead of race week from May 4–9.
The Co. Antrim dealership will provide a line-up of eight Honda machines – including five CBR1000RR-R Fireblades and three CBR600RR models – ensuring marshal riders are equipped to respond quickly and effectively across the course during one of Northern Ireland’s most high-profile motorsport events.
New machinery unveiled ahead of race week
The new bikes were officially presented by Honda Racing legend and six-time North West 200 winner John McGuinness MBE to Race Director Mervyn Whyte during the opening of Ballymena Honda’s newly refurbished dealership.
The investment places a strong focus on operational readiness as organisers prepare for the return of thousands of spectators and competitors to the Triangle circuit for the 2026 event.
The travelling marshals play a critical role during race week, tasked with rapid response duties across the course, including incident management, communication, and rider safety support.
Vital role of travelling marshals recognised

North West 200 Race Director Mervyn Whyte welcomed the continued backing from both Ballymena Honda and Feridax, highlighting the importance of the support in maintaining safety standards.
“We are delighted to receive Ballymena Honda’s continued support for our marshalling team and we are very grateful to Ballymena Honda and Feridax for their input once again,” he said.
The addition of new, high-specification machinery is expected to enhance the mobility and effectiveness of marshal teams operating throughout the event.
Local dealership deepens involvement in iconic event
Ballymena Honda Dealer Principal Kurt Harmer underlined the significance of supporting the marshalling team, while also confirming his own involvement as a marshal rider during the 2026 races.
“The travelling marshal team is a vital part of any road race and we want to help ensure they have the very best equipment available to them,” he said.
“I’ve watched the racers competing at the NW200 over the years and have been in awe of their skill and speed. I’m also delighted to be taking up the post of one of the marshal riders this year.
“I’ve been involved in road racing all my life and it really is an honour to be part of the team that play an essential role in the safe running of the event and the Honda machinery we are providing will be invaluable.
“I’d like to thank Honda UK for their assistance in providing the bikes and Feridax for their support in providing Shoei helmets.”
Feridax will supply each travelling marshal with a Shoei helmet, further strengthening the safety provision for those working trackside throughout the week.
Fan experience and retail presence at the event
Alongside its operational support, Ballymena Honda will also have a strong presence within the event’s Trade Village, located opposite the paddock.
Visitors will be able to view a selection of the latest 2026 Honda models, as well as purchase items from the newly launched Honda Racing clothing and merchandise range.
The retail offering will include team wear such as hoodies, caps, and jackets, providing fans with an opportunity to engage directly with the brand during race week.
Countdown to one of Northern Ireland’s biggest sporting events
The Briggs Equipment North West 200 remains one of the region’s flagship sporting occasions, drawing international competitors and large crowds to the north coast each May.
With preparations intensifying ahead of the May 4–9 race week, the continued investment in safety infrastructure and equipment highlights the scale of planning required to deliver the event.
The support from Ballymena Honda and Feridax ensures that one of the most critical operational teams on the course – the travelling marshals – will be fully equipped to carry out their duties during the high-speed, high-risk environment of international road racing.
