Back in the Game Ballymena has underlined the importance of community connection and men’s mental wellbeing after attending a major wellbeing event in Ballymena.

The local group was invited to take part in the annual ‘Wellbeing Monday’ event, hosted by Radius and Triangle Housing Associations, working in partnership with Turning Point NI, at the Adair Arms Hotel on Monday, January 19.

The event brought together a wide range of health, wellbeing and support organisations, offering attendees access to advice, health checks and specialist services in a supportive and informal setting.

Back in the Game Ballymena provides opportunities for men of all ages and abilities to return to football, using the sport as a way to improve mental, physical and social wellbeing.

The initiative is particularly focused on tackling isolation and encouraging positive routines, especially for those who may be struggling with their mental health.

Speaking during the event, a spokesperson for Back in the Game Ballymena said:

“‘Blue Monday’ can be a challenging time for mental wellbeing.

“Throughout the day, visitors were able to engage with a broad range of services, including advice and signposting from local support organisations, Pharmacy Health Checks, and specialist input from the Northern Health Trust.

“Representatives from Homeless Health, School Nursing, and Health Visiting teams were also in attendance, allowing people to speak directly with professionals and access guidance in one place.”

For members of Back in the Game Ballymena, the event provided an opportunity not only to promote their activities, but also to connect with others across the local community.

The spokesperson added that it was “a great opportunity for the members of BITG to showcase their own services and activities in this important area and of course meet up with a wide range of people attending the event.”

The Wellbeing Monday event forms part of ongoing efforts across Ballymena to address mental health challenges, particularly during the winter months, and to encourage people to seek support early through accessible, community-based initiatives.
