Asda has announced a major price drop on its popular Kids Eat for £1 café meal deal, cutting the cost to just 60p throughout the month of May to mark the retailer’s 60th birthday celebrations.
The initiative, which has proven to be a lifeline for families since its launch in 2022, will run from 1st to 31st May across all 205 Asda cafés in the UK, including Northern Ireland. The limited-time offer allows children under 16 to enjoy a freshly prepared hot meal for less than the price of a chocolate bar—without any minimum spend or requirement to purchase an adult meal.
Meals available include family favourites such as Penne Pasta with Meatballs, Chicken Nuggets, Fish Fingers, and Margherita Pizza, with each hot meal also accompanied by a free piece of fruit such as an apple, pear, or banana.

A family with four children can take advantage of the deal to provide a hot meal for everyone at a total cost of just £2.40—a welcome saving during a period of ongoing financial pressure for many UK households.
In addition to hot meals, Asda cafés also offer a cold pick-and-mix meal selection, typically priced at £1. This includes a sandwich, drink and fruit, and now also features new treats such as jelly pots with whole fruit and jelly squeeze pouches as a healthier alternative to crisps. These cold meal options will also be reduced to 60p for May.
Since its inception in June 2022, the Kids Eat for £1 scheme has seen over six million meals served nationwide, with peak demand reaching 40,000 meals per week during school holidays. Originally introduced to ease pressure on families during holiday periods, the initiative was made available all year round in 2023 due to overwhelming demand and positive public response.

Ian McEvans, Vice President - Commercial Food at Asda, commented on the announcement:
“Asda has a rich heritage in supporting families and reducing our already hugely popular Kids Eat for £1 initiative to 60p is the perfect way to highlight that and to kick-start our 60th birthday celebrations.
“We know families face financial pressures when it comes to feeding their children, not just during the school holidays, but all year round. We’ve served over six million meals since we first launched the initiative in 2022, proving what a lifeline it is to families across the UK, so I’m delighted that we can drop the price to 60p this May and hope to reduce some of that pressure even further.”
The move underscores Asda’s continued commitment to offering value for money to its customers—particularly those with young families—while celebrating six decades as a staple of the British high street.
The offer is available in participating Asda cafés until 31st May 2025.
