Young Larne hockey players get a boost as Share Energy continues junior sponsorship

Young hockey players in Larne are heading into the season with continued backing from locally-owned electricity supplier Share Energy, which is supporting three of Larne Ladies Hockey Club’s junior squads.

The sponsorship covers the club’s U11, U13 and U15 teams, providing training tops for players and helping ensure the youngsters have matching club gear both at training and on match days.

For the young players, however, wearing the same colours as their teammates — and the club’s senior players — has brought an added sense of identity and belonging.

‘I get to look like one of our 1st XI’

U11 player Hannah Robinson said her training top has quickly become an essential part of her hockey kit.

“Putting on my training top I get to look like one of our 1st XI. I never go to training or matches without it on. It is great for the chilly wet weather and makes the team have a winning spirit. Thank you, Share Energy!”

U13 player Lilly Wilson said the sponsorship was helping the youngsters to “look and feel the part”.

“Thank you for sponsoring our sports gear. Your support means so much to the team and helps us look and feel the part!” she said.

For U15 player Ella Johnston, having the squads wearing matching training gear has also strengthened the feeling of being part of the club.

“It’s such a great feeling walking onto the pitch with your teammates all wearing the same kit,” Ella said.

“It shows that we are all together representing Larne. We’re really thankful to have a local company supporting us and being part of the team.”

Supporting grassroots opportunities

Share Energy, a locally-owned electricity supplier which says it will share half of its profits with customers, is continuing its sponsorship as part of its wider support for community initiatives across Northern Ireland.

Share Energy Community Champion Ailbhe McCusker said grassroots clubs provided young people with opportunities extending beyond sport itself.

“We’re delighted to continue our support for Larne Ladies Hockey Club and, in particular, its U11, U13 and U15 squads.

“Grassroots clubs play such an important role in their local communities, giving young people the opportunity to be active, develop their skills and experience everything that comes from being part of a team.

“It’s fantastic to hear how much our support means to the players. We’re proud to play a small part in continuing to partner these young sports stars and we wish all three squads every success for the season ahead.”

The continued partnership will see Share Energy backing young players across three age groups as they develop their skills and progress through Larne Ladies Hockey Club — with the youngsters themselves making clear that the support is helping them feel every bit a part of the team.
