The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for Northern Ireland, warning of possible travel disruption and localised flooding due to heavy rain and thunderstorms today, Tuesday 15 July 2025.

The alert is in place from 11:00am to 5:00pm on Tuesday, with meteorologists forecasting a combination of heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms, and the potential for hail and lightning.

According to the Met Office, “Heavy rain will affect parts of Northern Ireland followed by some heavy showers and a few thunderstorms breaking out later this morning and into the afternoon, before clearing eastwards by evening.”

In some areas, the rain could be particularly intense, with 15–20mm expected in under an hour, and 30–40mm possible over a few hours. Such rainfall levels could lead to isolated surface water flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained urban areas.

The warning also includes the risk of hail and lightning strikes, which could pose further hazards to travel and outdoor activities.

Disruption

Motorists are advised to take extra care on the roads due to reduced visibility, slippery surfaces, and potential flooded routes. Public transport services may also face delays.

Commuters and the general public are urged to monitor local travel updates and consider adjusting their plans where necessary.
