Wrightbus has hailed its partnership with Dublin Bus as a model of innovation and environmental progress, as Ireland’s capital city celebrates a century of public bus service.
Marking 100 years since the launch of Route 43 in 1925, Dublin Bus now operates over 1,100 buses and delivers more than half a million passenger journeys each day.
The iconic yellow fleet has embraced the future with over 100 Wrightbus StreetDeck Electroliners — battery-electric double-deckers designed and manufactured in Ballymena — now playing a vital role in the capital’s decarbonisation drive.
Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said:
“Congratulations to Dublin Bus on a remarkable 100 years of service to the people of Dublin. It’s an honour for Wrightbus to support this proud legacy with over 100 StreetDeck Electroliners now helping to drive a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future for the city.
“Dublin Bus’s forward-thinking vision and commitment to decarbonising transport led by CEO Billy Hann is inspiring, and we’re proud to play a part in this next chapter of innovation and environmental leadership.”

The sleek, zero-emission Electroliners are now a familiar sight across Dublin, contributing significantly to efforts to reduce air and noise pollution.
The transition to electric has been supported by upgrades to infrastructure, including the electrification of key depots at Summerhill and Phibsborough.
Built for modern city travel, the Wrightbus Electroliners boast a range of features designed for comfort, safety and accessibility. These include dual-doorway ramps, priority seating, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and buggies, hearing loops, USB charging points, and enhanced driver ergonomics.
In addition to offering a smoother and quieter ride, the battery-electric vehicles deliver zero tailpipe emissions, contributing to improved air quality for residents, commuters, and visitors alike.
A Wrightbus spokesperson added:
“We are delighted to partner with Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority as we work together to help make public transport an accessible, comfortable and cleaner means of travel, lowering emissions and providing cleaner more breathable air in the city.”
The collaboration between Wrightbus, Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority exemplifies the shift towards greener public transport networks across the UK and Ireland, with Ballymena-built buses leading the charge toward a more sustainable future.
