A woman has been charged in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Bushmills, County Antrim, that tragically claimed the life of American tourist Allison Eichner.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:30pm on Wednesday, 11th June, on Causeway Road, a well-travelled route popular with visitors to Northern Ireland’s North Coast.
Police confirmed that Allison Eichner, a pedestrian in her 40s from the Connecticut area of the United States, died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
A 66-year-old woman has since been charged with causing death by careless driving. She is scheduled to appear at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13th June.
As is standard procedure, the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) will review the charges.
Detective Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit provided a statement on Wednesday following the incident:
“Police received and responded to a report of a collision shortly before 12.30pm. Colleagues from the emergency services also attended the scene.
“A female pedestrian aged in her 40s was taken to hospital by colleagues from the emergency services, however she sadly died from her injuries.
“One person was arrested at the scene, and remains in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.”
DI Adair appealed for witnesses or dashcam footage to assist with ongoing investigations:
“Detectives from the Collision Investigation Unit are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision, and would ask anyone who might have information which could assist, to get in touch. The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 683 of 11/06/25.”
The collision involved a single vehicle and led to the temporary closure of the Causeway Road while forensic officers examined the scene.
Allison Eichner had been visiting the region from the United States, and news of her death has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from locals and the wider community.
Police have not released further details regarding the accused at this stage.
