Police are investigating reports of a suspected drugging-related incident in Limavady after alarming claims circulated online about a woman allegedly becoming unwell after being approached by men at a local fuel station.

The incident, which is understood to have allegedly happened at a forecourt in the Ballyquinn Road area of the town, has prompted a public appeal from the PSNI as officers attempt to establish exactly what occurred.

According to reports shared online, a woman was filling her car with fuel when she was allegedly approached by men who asked whether she wanted work carried out at her home.

After reportedly refusing, it is claimed one of the men handed her a business card which she later believed may have been covered in some form of substance.

The online account further alleges that after leaving the forecourt, the woman realised the vehicle carrying the men was following her.

It is claimed she then began to feel seriously unwell while driving and feared she was about to lose consciousness.

According to the reports, the woman allegedly drove into a nearby housing estate and repeatedly sounded her car horn in a bid to attract attention.

It is understood the vehicle that had allegedly been following her then drove away.

Police appeal for information as enquiries continue

The PSNI has confirmed it is aware of the online speculation surrounding the alleged incident and says enquiries are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Adams said officers are now attempting to establish the circumstances surrounding the claims and whether any criminal offence occurred.

He said:

“We are aware of online speculation concerning an incident at a forecourt in the Ballyquinn Road area of the town.

“No formal report has been made to police, and we are carrying out a number of enquiries into the circumstances of what may have happened, and the nature of these reports online.

“We would therefore appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything or has any information including CCTV or dash-cam footage to make contact with us 101, alternatively 999 in an emergency.

“If this happened to you, please come forward and make contact with us as soon as possible so that the matter can be fully investigated.”

Concern grows over social media claims

The reports have sparked concern locally and rapidly spread across social media, with many residents sharing warnings online following the alleged incident.

At this stage, police have stressed that no formal complaint has yet been made, while enquiries continue into the claims being circulated online.

Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Ballyquinn Road area at the time and who may have captured relevant footage on CCTV or dash-cam systems.

Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101, or in an emergency by dialling 999.
