Police have confirmed that enquiries into an alleged drugging-related incident at a Limavady petrol station have concluded with no evidence found to support claims circulating online.

The reports, which spread widely on social media earlier this week, alleged that a woman became seriously unwell after being approached by men at a forecourt in the Ballyquinn Road area of the town.

The online claims prompted concern locally and led to a public appeal from the PSNI for information and possible dash-cam or CCTV footage.

However, following enquiries, police say no evidence was identified to substantiate the speculation surrounding the alleged incident.

Police complete enquiries into online claims

Chief Inspector Adams said:

“No evidence was identified by officers throughout the course of enquiries to substantiate online speculation concerning an incident at a forecourt in the Ballyquinn Road area.

“Police would, however, still encourage anyone with information to make contact with us 101, alternatively 999 in an emergency.”

The PSNI has not indicated that any offences were detected during the course of enquiries.

The original online reports alleged a woman had been approached while filling her car with fuel before later believing she was being followed and beginning to feel unwell while driving.

Those claims rapidly gained traction online and were widely shared across local social media pages.

Police still urging public to come forward with information

Despite the conclusion of enquiries, police are continuing to encourage anyone with relevant information to make contact.

Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Reports can also be submitted online through the PSNI non-emergency reporting portal at  PSNI Make A Report.

Information can also be provided anonymously to  Crimestoppers UK or by calling 0800 555 111.

The update is likely to reassure many local residents following widespread concern generated by the online allegations this week.
