Seven Towers Netball Club is delighted to announce that a brand-new way to enjoy netball at a gentler pace will be coming to Ballymena this September, with the launch of Walking Netball sessions at Ballymena Academy.

The weekly sessions, starting on Thursday 4th September from 5pm to 6pm, will take place in partnership with Netball NI and are open to anyone looking to stay active, meet new people, and have fun in a supportive environment.

Each session costs just £3 per person.

Walking Netball is exactly what it sounds like—traditional netball but slowed down to make it low-impact and inclusive. It is particularly suitable for those returning to sport, recovering from injury, or anyone who simply prefers a more relaxed pace.

“Walking Netball is netball—just a little slower! Designed to be low-impact and inclusive, it’s perfect for those returning to sport, managing injuries, or simply wanting to enjoy the game at their own pace,” said a spokesperson from the local club.

Sessions follow the same familiar format as a regular netball training session, including a warm-up, fun mini games and drills, followed by a friendly match.

Participants do not need specialist kit—just comfortable clothing, trainers, and a bottle of water.

Adding to the excitement, Netball NI’s Walking Netball Facilitator, Betty Wilson, will lead the sessions for the first six weeks.

Registration is simple via the Heja app, using the code TX-025311 download link. Anyone seeking more information can email Betty Wilson, NNI HIYN Officer, at hiyn-betty@netballni.org.

Organisers hope the new programme will encourage more people across Ballymena to enjoy the social and health benefits of team sport in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

“Let’s move more, laugh often, and enjoy netball together – one step at a time,” they added.
