“When I felt that gold medal go round my neck, the weight of it felt like the weight of my entire life’s work,” Rhys McClenaghan, Olympic Gold Medalist.

Six athletes from Northern Ireland stepped on to an Olympic medal podium this summer. Paris 2024 was the most successful Games ever for local Olympians.

In their own words, three rowers, two swimmers and a gymnast describe what it was like to prepare, compete and bring home an Olympic medal in a new BBC Sport film. The film celebrates their achievements and marks their outstanding success on the greatest sporting stage.

Swimmers Daniel Wiffen and Jack McMillan, rowers Rebecca Shorten, Hannah Scott and Philip Doyle and gymnast Rhys McClenaghan feature in, Paris 2024: Medals and Memories, on BBC iPlayer and BBC One Northern Ireland on Monday 2 December.

Each athlete reflects on their path to Olympic success recalling the moments in the heat of competition as they battled next to Olympic rivals or what it was like preparing for that one moment that would define a lifetime of hard work.

The film shows audiences previously unseen footage from Paris 2024 alongside archive home movie footage of the athletes as they tell their compelling stories of individual and Olympic team glory.
