Tragedy in Coleraine as man dies in late-night house fire

A man has tragically died following a house fire in Coleraine, County Londonderry, the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has confirmed.
Emergency services were called to a property on Maple Drive at 11.09pm on Wednesday, 30 July 2025. Crews from Coleraine, Portstewart, and Portrush fire stations responded to the late-night incident.
A spokesperson for the NIFRS said:
“The thoughts and sympathies of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are with the loved ones of a man who died following a house fire on Maple Drive, Coleraine.”
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was rescued from the building and handed over to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS). Tragically, he later died.
“Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a house at 11.09pm last night (Wednesday 30 July 2025). One Fire Appliance from Coleraine Fire Station, one from Portstewart Fire Station and one from Portrush Fire Station attended the incident,” the NIFRS spokesperson said.
“One male occupant, aged in his 50s, was rescued from the property by Firefighters and left in the care of NIAS but tragically later passed away.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire crews remained at the scene until 12.16am on Thursday, 31 July.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
