Three people were taken to hospital on Friday evening after carbon monoxide was detected at a property in Kilrea, County Londonderry.
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said it received a call at 7.24pm on Friday, 17 October 2025, following reports of people feeling unwell at a house on Kurin Road.
A NIFRS spokesperson said:

“Appliances from Maghera and Kilrea attended alongside 3 officers and colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.”
The spokesperson confirmed that carbon monoxide was identified within the property, relating to a household appliance.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used gas monitors and ventilation fans to make the area safe.
“Firefighters utilised breathing apparatus, gas monitors and ventilation fans to resolve the incident. 3 persons were conveyed to hospital,” the NIFRS added.
Crews left the scene at 10.28pm after the incident was resolved.
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service regularly reminds householders of the dangers of carbon monoxide — a colourless, odourless gas that can be fatal if undetected — and urges the public to ensure that appliances are properly maintained and that carbon monoxide alarms are installed and tested regularly.
