Silent Valley Mountain Park in County Down will be closed to the public on Monday 4th August 2025, as Storm Floris is forecast to bring “unseasonable strong winds” and “heavy rain” to Northern Ireland.

The precautionary closure follows a Met Office yellow weather warning, with the region expected to be among the worst affected by the approaching summer storm.

In a statement, officials confirmed the closure has been made in the interest of public safety, citing ongoing repair work to storm-damaged areas within the park.

“Some trees at Silent Valley were damaged following Storm Éowyn,” the statement said.

“While the park was partially reopened earlier this year, some walking and nature trails remain closed due to the damage. Repairs are ongoing, but it will take time to fully restore all areas.”

A full site inspection is scheduled for Tuesday 5th August, to assess whether conditions are safe enough to reopen.

The closure is expected to affect visitors planning to walk or explore the Mourne landscape on Monday, particularly during the peak summer tourism season.

Northern Ireland has faced a series of intense summer storms in recent years, with Storm Éowyn causing widespread disruption earlier in 2025.

The park’s management said they continue to monitor weather conditions closely and appreciate the public’s understanding during the restoration process.
