The Rowan Sexual Assault Referral Centre honoured with Health and Wellbeing Award at GNI Mag ceremony

The team from The Rowan Sexual Assault Referral Centre celebrate success at the GNI Mag awards.

The Rowan Sexual Assault Referral Centre has been recognised for its vital work supporting victims of sexual violence, winning the Health and Wellbeing Award at this year’s GNI Mag Awards in Belfast.

The annual ceremony celebrates individuals, organisations, and services that champion inclusivity and play a significant role in improving the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of those within the LGBTQIA+ community. Award winners are chosen entirely by public vote, reflecting community trust and appreciation.

Accepting the award, Head of Service Joanna Brown expressed gratitude to everyone who voted for and supported the centre.

“The Rowan celebrates diversity and offers an inclusive non-judgmental service to all. We’re very grateful this has been recognised through this award,” she said.

Since opening in 2013, The Rowan has provided specialist support to almost 9,000 individuals, delivering care at moments of acute vulnerability.

Ms Brown continued:

“Since we opened back in 2013 we have supported almost 9000 individuals and we are very proud of the excellent standard of specialist care that we provide, often when people are at their most vulnerable.

“Unfortunately, sexual violence continues to be a concern in our society, and we want to remind people that our professional and highly trained staff are here to offer help and advice all year round.”

The Rowan offers a 24/7 service, providing medical assistance, emotional support, and practical guidance for anyone who has experienced sexual assault or rape. The centre encourages anyone in need to reach out.
