Police warn of traffic disruption in Portrush as two parades set to take place

Portrush, County Antrim

Anyone travelling to or through Portrush on Saturday afternoon is being urged to allow extra time, with police warning of potential traffic congestion as two separate public events and parades take place in the town.

Road users can expect short delays between 3.30pm and 6pm, when temporary road closures will be in place to allow the events to pass safely.

Two events planned

The first event, organised by Causeway Coast & Glens Concerned Parents Group, is due to begin at 2pm in the Sandhill Drive car park.

A parade organised by the group will assemble at 3.15pm before moving off at 3.30pm.

The procession will travel from the Sandhill Drive car park along Eglinton Street, Kerr Street, Harbour Hill, Upper Main Street, Lower Main Street and Dunluce Avenue, finishing at Dunluce Car Park. It is expected to disperse at around 4.45pm.

Second parade follows

Also beginning at 2pm, Solidarity Skate will gather at Station Square, where participants will remain until 4pm.

From there, the group will undertake a parade consisting of two laps of a route taking in Station Square, Kerr Street, Main Street, Eglinton Street and back to Kerr Street. The event is scheduled to conclude at 6pm.

Police advice

The PSNI has advised motorists to expect temporary delays while both parades are taking place.

Police officers will be on duty throughout the afternoon to facilitate the events, with short, temporary road closures introduced as the processions move through the town.

Anyone planning to visit Portrush during the afternoon is encouraged to leave extra time for their journey or consider alternative routes where possible. While delays are expected to be temporary, traffic is likely to be busier than usual as both events take place.
