Murdered: 43-year-old Wayne Reid

Detectives investigating the murder of Wayne Reid have issued a renewed appeal for information as police activity continues in the Society Street and Society Court areas of Coleraine.

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team carried out further searches in the area earlier today, Wednesday 21 January, as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of the 43-year-old man.

Wayne Reid was pronounced dead at an address in Society Court on Monday 12 January. Police now believe he was assaulted two days earlier, in the early hours of Saturday 10 January, at an address on nearby Society Street.

Detective Chief Inspector Hazel Miller said:

“Over one week ago, on Monday 12 January, 43-year-old Wayne Reid was pronounced dead in an address in the Society Court area of Coleraine.

“I believe that Wayne was assaulted at an address in Society Street in the early hours of Saturday 10 January and later died as a result of injuries sustained during this attack.”

The renewed appeal comes as detectives continue to piece together the movements and final hours of Mr Reid, with police particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or spoken to him following the alleged assault.

Acknowledging the impact on both the family and the wider community, Detective Chief Inspector Miller added:

“My thoughts remain with Wayne’s family and loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time. Members of the local community have also been left shaken by the tragic event.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and local people will see a continued police presence in the area as we carry out enquiries.”

Residents in the Society Street and Society Court areas have reported increased police activity in recent days, with officers conducting house-to-house enquiries and searches as part of the murder investigation.

Police have reiterated their appeal for witnesses or anyone with information, however small it may seem, to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Miller said:

“I’m keen to reiterate my appeal for anyone with information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 552 of 12/01/26. I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the attack, or who may have spoken to Wayne in the period following the attack.”

Members of the public are also being urged to review any photos or footage they may have captured around the time of the incident, including CCTV, mobile phone or dash-cam recordings.
