Murdered: Coleraine man Wayne Reid
Detectives investigating the murder of Wayne Reid in Coleraine have carried out further searches in the town as part of ongoing enquiries into his death.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team were conducting searches on Saturday, 24 January, in the Lisnablagh Road area and surrounding locations.
Mr Reid, aged 43, was pronounced dead at an address in the Society Court area of Coleraine on Monday, 12 January. Detectives believe he was assaulted in the early hours of Saturday, 10 January, and later died as a result of his injuries.
The investigation has continued at pace over recent weeks, with police maintaining a visible presence in the community as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.
Detective Chief Inspector Hazel Miller said the impact on Mr Reid’s family has been profound.
“The last two weeks have been torturous for Wayne’s family and loved ones.”
She said detectives remain determined to identify those responsible, highlighting the extensive work already carried out by officers on the ground.
“We will continue to work relentlessly to bring those responsible to justice. Over recent days, we’ve carried out extensive door-to-door enquiries in the local area. We’ve been speaking with pedestrians and members of the local community.
“Officers have also carried out multiple searches, with searches still ongoing today in the Lisnablagh Road and surrounding areas.”
Acknowledging the cooperation received so far, Detective Chief Inspector Miller thanked residents for their assistance and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Residents will continue to see a police presence in the area, and I’m keen to take the opportunity to thank the local community for their ongoing support.”
She added:
“I’m appealing to anyone who has information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to do the right thing and contact us on 101, quoting reference 552 of 12/01/26.”
Police have also appealed for the public to check any footage they may have from the area around the time of the suspected assault.
