Murdered: Nicholas “Nicky” Gordon
Detectives investigating the murder of east Belfast man Nicholas “Nicky” Gordon have launched a new public evidence portal as they continue efforts to identify everyone involved in the fatal apartment building attack.
Mr Gordon died in hospital on Saturday, 16 May, four days after he was seriously assaulted inside an apartment building in the Holywood Road area during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police believe the attack happened between 4am and 8.30am on 12 May and are now urging the public to submit any footage, photographs or information that could help investigators piece together the events leading up to his death.
The case is being treated as murder by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team.
Police say investigation moving “at pace”
Detective Chief Inspector Duffie said officers are continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry following the fatal assault.
“Our thoughts are with Nicholas’ family and friends at this sad time as they try to come to terms with their loss, and as we continue to examine the exact circumstances of what happened,” he said.
“Two people arrested on suspicion of offences including aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm have since been released on bail – and we continue to work at pace to seek others who may be involved.
“Today, Sunday 17th May, we are releasing a reporting portal that members of the public can use to share any information that may help us with this investigation.
“I would reiterate our earlier appeal that anyone who may have information that could assist us, to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 224 12/05/26. Any detail, no matter how small, could prove crucial to our investigation.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the Holywood Road area on Tuesday, 12th May between 4am and 8.30am and noticed suspicious behaviour to get in touch.
“Residents in this area will continue to see a police presence over the next few days, as our investigation develops.”
New public portal launched for CCTV and mobile footage
Detectives are particularly keen to obtain CCTV, dash-cam and mobile phone footage from the area surrounding Holywood Road during the timeframe surrounding the attack.
Police have now launched a Major Incident Public Portal where members of the public can directly upload images, video footage and information linked to the investigation.
The portal can be accessed at:
Police said even seemingly minor details could help establish movements, identify suspects or build a clearer timeline of events.
The renewed appeal comes as officers continue extensive enquiries in east Belfast, with residents warned they are likely to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
