Police presence at Emerge Festival as investigation launched into teenager’s death

Police have confirmed they were in attendance at Emerge Festival in Belfast’s Boucher Playing Fields over the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August 2025, with seven arrests made and a teenager’s sudden death now under investigation.


Belfast District Commander, Superintendent Allister Hagan, said:


“As with all large-scale events, a range of agencies were involved in supporting the safe delivery of the festival. Police were present across the weekend, working in partnership with organisers and Belfast City Council to help ensure the safety of those attending.”



Across the two-day event, local officers were supported by specialist units including Air Support, Tactical Support, the Dog Section and Roads Policing.


Police confirmed that seven arrests were made, while 13 immediate disposals were issued, consisting of:


  • three Fixed Penalty Notices,

  • one Caution,

  • nine Community Resolution Notices.



Offences included disorderly behaviour, driving whilst unfit through excess alcohol, assault on police, and possession of controlled drugs.


Teenager’s tragic death


During the festival, it was reported that a 17-year-old girl became unwell. Police have confirmed that she subsequently died in hospital.



Superintendent Hagan said:


“During the event it was reported that a 17-year-old girl had become unwell. Sadly, she subsequently died in hospital.


“Police remained on the event site until Monday afternoon, 25th August. An investigation in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic sudden death of this young person is ongoing, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”



The PSNI added that they will continue to work closely with festival organisers and the licensing authority to ensure that future events remain “safe and enjoyable for all of those who attend.”
