Manchester United took a significant step towards the Girls’ Premier Section title at the Budget Energy SuperCupNI after edging rivals Liverpool 1-0, while Linfield produced one of the standout performances of the day with an emphatic Belfast derby victory over Glentoran.

Tuesday’s fixtures delivered drama across both the Premier and Junior sections, with defending champions Shamrock Rovers also underlining their credentials by hitting 10 goals, while Northern Ireland earned a hard-fought draw against Aston Villa.

United claim crucial Premier Section win

The headline fixture saw Manchester United and Liverpool meet at Dixon Park after both sides had opened the tournament with convincing victories on Monday.

With top spot in the group firmly in sight, the contest proved a closely fought encounter. Maisie Lewis scored the only goal of the game in the first half, and Liverpool were unable to find a response despite pressing for an equaliser after the break.

The victory leaves Manchester United in a strong position as the competition continues.

At Monkstown, Northern Ireland picked up a valuable point after drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa.

After a goalless opening half, Abigail Curley fired Northern Ireland into the lead before Georgia Jagger levelled for the English side to ensure the points were shared.

Shamrock Rovers send out title warning

Defending champions Shamrock Rovers produced the most dominant display of the day, overwhelming Chicago City 10-0 at Chimney Corner.

The Dublin club led 2-0 at half-time before running riot in the second half, adding another eight goals. Ciara Milton starred with four goals as Rovers underlined why they remain among the favourites to retain the title.

Elsewhere in the Premier Section, IL Heming claimed a convincing 4-1 victory over Desert Empire Surf in the meeting between two tournament newcomers at Rathcoole.

Linfield in complete control of Belfast derby

Budget Energy SuperCupNI Girls' Premier Section match between Northern Ireland and Aston Villa at Monkstown, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

One of the day’s most eye-catching results came in the Girls’ Junior Section, where Linfield comfortably defeated Glentoran 4-0 at Chimney Corner.

The Blues controlled much of the contest from the opening whistle, creating early opportunities through Lily Donaldson, Maci Davidson and Daisy Coalter before finally breaking the deadlock.

Maisie Hobson opened the scoring after 22 minutes following a well-worked move down the left, before captain Megan McCabe doubled Linfield’s advantage shortly before half-time after a goalmouth scramble.

Glentoran improved after the interval and created an early chance through Eloise McAuley, but Linfield continued to threaten going forward.

Donaldson added a third with 20 minutes remaining before Davidson rounded off an impressive team display with a fourth shortly before full-time.

Crusaders and Manchester United also impress

Crusaders also celebrated derby success in the Junior Section, defeating Cliftonville 4-1.

Rachael Kerr scored twice, while Annie McCann and Kelly Robinson were also on target in an impressive victory.

Manchester United maintained their perfect start in the Junior competition with a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock thanks to goals from Erin Innes and Poppy Harris-Jones.

Surf Select also made it two wins from two after edging Peamount United 3-2 in an entertaining five-goal encounter at Dixon Park.
