Police close road in Randalstown after report of suspicious object

Police in Northern Ireland have closed off a section of Main Street in Randalstown this evening, Thursday 3 July, after receiving a report of a suspicious object in the area.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are currently on scene, with cordons in place to ensure public safety while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed:
“Police are currently in attendance in the Main Street area of Randalstown following a report of a suspicious object this evening, Thursday 3rd July.”
No properties have been evacuated at this stage, but Main Street has been fully closed, and traffic diversions are currently operational via Portglenone Road and Ahoghill Road.
“Main Street has been closed - with cordons in place - no properties have been evacuated at this time. Diversions are in place via the Portglenone Road and Ahoghill Road,” the spokesperson added.
Police are urging the public to stay away from the affected area until further notice.
“We are advising members of the public and road users to avoid the area. A further update will be provided in due course.”
