Police investigating reports of suspicious activity and fraud involving tradespeople have charged a man following an arrest in the Mid and East Antrim area.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, 4 February, on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

Police have confirmed that he has since been charged and is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 26 February.

The investigation forms part of ongoing efforts by police to tackle so-called “rogue traders”, whose activities can leave victims facing significant financial loss, unfinished building work, and distress in their own homes.

Police are now appealing to the public for further information and are urging anyone who believes they may have been targeted by a fraudulent trader to come forward.

Larne Neighbourhood Inspector Ash highlighted the importance of reporting concerns, particularly where building or home improvement work has been left incomplete. He said:

“If you, or someone you know has been affected by fraud, perhaps involving incomplete building work, please report it to us on 101. Information can also be provided online via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

“In an emergency, always dial 999.”

Police say reports from the community play a vital role in identifying patterns of fraudulent behaviour and protecting others from becoming victims.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from residents who may have paid for work that was never completed, or who felt pressured or misled by individuals claiming to be legitimate tradespeople.

Anyone with information relating to suspicious trading activity is encouraged to contact police on 101, submit a report online via the PSNI website, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
