Detectives investigating the attack on Lurgan Police Station in March have arrested three people in a significant development in the ongoing terrorism inquiry.

A 48-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on Wednesday, 6 May under the Terrorism Act and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

A 39-year-old woman was later arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, obstructing police and assisting an offender.

All three arrests were carried out in the Lurgan area, where police say a number of searches remain ongoing.

Police say attack put innocent lives at risk

The arrests relate to the attack on Lurgan Police Station on the night of Monday 30 March — an incident which police say was “widely condemned” and posed a serious danger to the public.

The investigation is being led by the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit, with detectives continuing efforts to identify everyone connected to the incident.

A PSNI spokesperson said:

“This cowardly and widely condemned attack, which took place on the night of Monday 30 March, put innocent lives at risk.

“I’m keen to offer assurance that we will continue in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice, and would encourage anyone with information to get in touch.”

Search operations continue in Lurgan

Police confirmed that searches linked to the investigation were still ongoing on Wednesday following the arrests.

The latest operation marks a major step in the investigation, which has remained active since the attack more than a month ago.

Incidents linked to national security and terrorism investigations typically involve extensive forensic work, intelligence gathering and coordinated search activity across multiple locations.

The PSNI has continued to appeal for public assistance as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and any individuals involved.
