Police appeal for witnesses following violent robbery in Ballymena

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are appealing to the public for information following a serious robbery in the Dunclug Park area of Ballymena on the night of Thursday 15th May.


According to police, the incident occurred between 10.30pm and 11pm, when a man in his 20s was assaulted on the street by an individual armed with a wooden stick or bat.



During the attack, a sum of money was taken from the victim.


Detective Sergeant Natalie Ash, speaking about the investigation, said:


“Sometime between 10.30pm and 11pm on Thursday night, a man aged in his 20’s was assaulted in the street by a male armed with a wooden stick or bat. During the assault, the attacker, who was reported to have been wearing black clothing and a balaclava, took a sum of money from the victim.


“The man sustained injuries to his head and fractures to his arm and face.”



The injured man received treatment for significant injuries, including head trauma and fractures to both his arm and face.


An active investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the suspect, who was described as wearing black clothing and a balaclava at the time of the assault.


Detectives are urging anyone who was in the Dunclug Park area during the relevant time frame to come forward.


“We are working to identify the male involved and would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to contact detectives in Antrim on 101, quoting reference number 2127 15/05/25,” said Detective Sergeant Ash.



Police are particularly interested in any dash-cam, doorbell, or CCTV footage that may have captured the incident or the suspect in the surrounding area.


“We would also ask residents who may have captured dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell footage which could assist us, to get in touch. Anyone with relevant information is strongly encouraged to assist the investigation by contacting the authorities through the appropriate channels.
