Detectives in Coleraine are appealing for information following a series of burglaries in the Armoy area, including two incidents at the same vacant property in less than 24 hours.

Police say the latest report was received around 6pm on Tuesday, 23 July, after a property located on the Drones Road was broken into for a second time.

Detective Sergeant McAdoo said:

“We have received a number of reports recently, with the most recent report on the 23rd July around 6pm, that a vacant property located on the Drones Road has been targeted by burglars once again, which we believe has happened sometime between 5pm on the 22nd July and 5pm on the 23rd July.”

In the initial incident, a copper cylinder was stolen. The culprits are believed to have returned the next day to steal additional copper piping.

“Those responsible have gained entry seamlessly, taking a copper cylinder on one occasion, and returning less than 24 hours later to take additional copper piping,” Detective Sergeant McAdoo explained.

Police believe the motive behind the break-ins may be linked to the rising market value of scrap metal.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this time to determine the motive, but we believe the copper will likely be sold on, due to the high price of scrap metal in the current market.”

The PSNI has urged local residents to take extra precautions, warning that thefts of this nature can occur at any time.

“I want to urge residents to be vigilant and to ensure their property is always secured when going to bed, or leaving for a period of time. Please be on your guard against potential theft, for it can happen at any time of the day.”

Residents are also being encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour or sightings of unfamiliar vehicles in the area.

“Please also be on the lookout for individuals acting suspiciously or for any suspicious vehicles in the area. Please also keep a lookout for the items mentioned being sold locally, online or by word-of-mouth.”

Anyone who was in the Drones Road area between 22–23 July and noticed anything unusual is asked to contact police.

“If you were in the area on these dates and have any information, please do not hesitate to get in contact. Call the non-emergency number 101, referencing 677 of 22/07/25, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
