Met Office issues yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Northern Ireland

Grey thunderstorm clouds with lightening strike.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office advising heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to some localised disruption as the new week begins.

The weather advisory is active from 12:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday 8th May.

A Met Office spokesperson commented:

"Heavy showers are expected to develop by the afternoon across Northern Ireland, aided by daytime heating. These may turn heavy and thundery at times, with a risk of hail.

"The heaviest showers are most likely in the east of the Province. Totals of 30-40mm in a couple of hours are possible."

As the week goes on the weather looks unsettled with a mixture of sunny dry spells, interspersed with showers, some thundery. The temperatures through the week will be moderate.
