The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for snow and ice across all six counties of Northern Ireland, with forecasters cautioning of “wintry showers on Tuesday night into Wednesday” that “will bring some icy patches and lying snow in places, leading to possible travel delays.”
The warning is in force from 00:00 to 12:00 on Wednesday 19 November 2025, affecting County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry and County Tyrone.
According to the Met Office:
“Frequent wintry showers will feed inland through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning across Northern Ireland, with strong northerly winds blowing showers well inland.”
Although forecasters do not expect major accumulations at lower levels, “1–3 cm is likely over higher ground, and perhaps very locally up to 5 cm.”
Routes at elevation — including the Glenshane Pass and Coleraine Mountain Road — may be particularly affected by snowfall. Drivers are warned to expect difficult conditions on untreated roads, with the potential for disruption during the Wednesday morning commute.
The Met Office added that “Ice will be likely on untreated surfaces, whilst hail and lightning will be additional hazards.”
Travel and safety advice
Motorists are advised to plan extra time for journeys, check for local travel updates and ensure vehicles are equipped for winter conditions. Pedestrians should also be cautious of icy pavements, especially during the early morning hours when temperatures are lowest.
